The Magic of Authenticity: Why Been Authentic Changes Everything
By: Eric Paddy Boso
Introduction
In a world obsessed with filters, followers, and flawless performance, authenticity is nothing short of magic. It is the quiet revolution that dismantles performance-based living. It is the soul?s rebellion against the exhausting pressure to fit in, keep up, or measure up. And perhaps most importantly, it is the sacred path that leads us back home ? to ourselves, to God, and to one another.
Authenticity is not about spilling your secrets to the world or sharing every raw thought. It?s deeper than transparency. It?s the courage to live from your inner truth ? even when it?s inconvenient, misunderstood, or rejected. It?s the power to say: ?This is who I am, and I will no longer shrink myself for anyone?s comfort or approval.?
Why We Hide Ourselves
From an early age, most of us learn to hide. We learn that certain emotions are ?too much,? certain dreams ?too unrealistic,? certain truths ?too unacceptable.? Slowly, we become performers ? curating versions of ourselves we believe are more lovable, more professional, more holy, more worthy.
But in our pursuit of perfection, we lose connection. We feel lonely, disconnected from others, and ultimately from ourselves. The mask may protect us from rejection, but it also becomes a prison. And deep down, our soul begins to whisper, ?There must be more to life than this.?
Authenticity Is a Spiritual Practice
Authenticity is not self-indulgence. It is spiritual alignment. It is the act of refusing to betray the soul God placed within you. Scripture reminds us that God delights in truth in the inward being (Psalm 51:6). Why? Because truth is the only ground where transformation, intimacy, and purpose can flourish.
When you are authentic, you are not only being honest ? you are being faithful. Faithful to who God made you to be. Faithful to the story He is writing through you. Faithful to the gifts, desires, and convictions He wove into your DNA.
And that kind of faithfulness has ripple effects. Authentic people don?t just change their own lives ? they give others permission to do the same. Their presence is healing. Their words carry weight. Their freedom becomes contagious.
The Cost of Pretending
Pretending comes at a price. It costs us our peace, our voice, our sense of identity. It causes internal tension: we feel like strangers to ourselves. We burn out trying to sustain an image, when what our soul really needs is rest in the truth.
You don?t need to be perfect. You need to be real.
Because authenticity isn?t about having it all together. It?s about being whole ? owning your strength and your struggle, your joy and your pain, your wisdom and your questions. Wholeness comes when we stop editing ourselves and start embracing the full, complex, glorious truth of who we are.
Authenticity Heals Relationships
In relationships, authenticity creates intimacy. Real connection cannot happen where there is performance. People can only love you to the extent that they truly know you. And they can only know you if you are willing to be seen.
Authenticity invites real friendship, real romance, real spiritual community. It doesn?t mean everyone will accept you ? but it does mean the right people will find you. When you live in your truth, you stop attracting people who love your mask. You start drawing those who love your soul.
Authenticity Unlocks Purpose
When you stop performing and start living from your truth, your purpose becomes clear. Why? Because purpose is always connected to identity. You cannot fulfill a calling while pretending to be someone else. God didn?t make a mistake when He created you. The very things you try to hide ? your sensitivity, your story, your quirks, your wounds ? may be the very things the world needs from you.
Living authentically allows your life to carry a unique weight ? a divine resonance that only your story can produce. You become a mirror for others. A living invitation that says: ?It?s safe to come out of hiding.?
The Risk and Reward
Yes, authenticity is risky. It may cost you some relationships, some illusions, and some temporary comfort. But it will give you something priceless in return: yourself. And with that comes clarity, peace, and freedom.
It?s not the easy path. But it is the sacred one.
How to Begin Living Authentically
Pause and reflect: Where in your life are you wearing a mask? Where do you feel pressured to perform?
Start small: Share your truth with someone you trust. Practice vulnerability in small, intentional ways.
Listen to your body and emotions: They often signal when you are betraying yourself to please others.
Spend time with God in silence: Let Him remind you who you are without the noise of the world.
Remember: You are not alone. The world is hungry for realness ? and it begins with you.
Final Blessing
May you have the courage to live unfiltered.May you choose truth over image, connection over performance, and wholeness over perfection.May your life be a beacon ? not of flawlessness, but of freedom. And may the world be changed by the magic that only your authenticity can bring.
